Explorer Scouts is where young people take the next step in their Scouting journey.
Open to anyone aged 14 to 18, Explorers is a place to make new friends, try new things, develop skills for life and take on challenges that help you discover what you’re capable of.

Explorer Units are managed directly by the District rather than individual Scout Groups, bringing together young people from across the area to share experiences, build friendships and enjoy a wider range of opportunities.

A programme shaped by you
Explorer Scouts is about giving young people the freedom to explore their interests and shape their own experiences. With the support, guidance and encouragement of Unit Leaders, Explorers help decide what they want to do, plan activities and take responsibility for making things happen.

Every Unit is different, and every Explorer’s journey is unique. Whether you want to take on outdoor adventures, develop leadership skills, learn practical skills, support your community, explore creativity and technology, or simply spend time with friends, there are opportunities to get involved in the things that matter to you.

Adventure, challenge and discovery
Adventure is at the heart of Explorer Scouts. Members can take part in activities ranging from camping and expeditions to climbing, archery, water sports, sailing and other adventurous challenges. These experiences help build confidence, resilience, teamwork and the ability to overcome challenges.

But adventure isn’t just about the outdoors. Explorers can also take part in projects, events and activities that develop real-world skills, encourage creativity and help them make a positive difference in their communities.

Skills for life
Explorer Scouts helps young people develop skills that will support them now and in the future. Through Scouting, Explorers can build confidence, learn to lead, work as part of a team, solve problems and take responsibility.

Members can work towards Scouting’s top awards, setting personal goals and challenging themselves to achieve things they may never have thought possible.

Making a difference
Explorers have the opportunity to play an active role in their communities and beyond. Whether through volunteering, community projects, fundraising or supporting younger sections of Scouts, Explorers can use their skills and ideas to create positive change.

Many Explorers also take part in the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where they support Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs or Scouts. This provides valuable experience in leadership, communication and teamwork while helping inspire the next generation.
